Should Our Students Consume Textbooks or Create Them?

As our technology committee explores eTextbooks as a replacement/supplement to traditional textbooks, we will examine a variety of options and the corresponding pros and cons.  Our goal is to increase student engagement and learning, and perhaps the most valuable textbooks for students are not textbooks at all, but rather high quality, peer reviewed research from a variety of online resources that they curate, contemplate, expand upon and share with others.

I learned a lot from this Google video, as it addresses questions, hypothesis, and student inquiry.  What are your thoughts about this?
