The power of the Internet to connect people is one its greatest advantages. Many professionals create Personal Learning Communities (PLNs) in which they interact with others in their field or areas of interest, and Google+ is a powerful tool for doing so. It allows users to create their own circles, communities (private or public), share documents and videos, videoconference with up to 15 concurrent users (and an infinite number of viewers–public or private) and much more. Our school district provides access to Google+ as part of its Google Staff Portal. It is not available yet on the student portal. If you are interested in learning more about it, now is a great time to do so! We’ve offered a number of professional development workshops with strategies for using this tool, but many users find they can jumpstart their experience by reading this document and watching the three short videos. Please remember that if you’re uncertain about whether or not to post something, it’s generally best not to post it! If you’re interested in learning more about this exciting tool–or others, please let me know. We continue to schedule professional development throughout the summer, and all workshops are posted in My Learning Plan.
