On May 8, 2009, Ursula Carbone (Nanuet School District) and I were fortunate to receive the LHRIC’s 2009 Technology Director Pioneer Award. This was a great honor and although it is given to the technology director, it is a reflection and endorsement of a district’s progress with regard to using technology to improve student learning and engagement. As a district, we now have a wealth of tools to assist in delivering on one of the district’s four strategic goals, that which states, “Utilizing technology effectively as a tool, students will communicate, construct learning, and demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills.” In my acceptance speech, I commented that although we identify technology as a tool for our teachers, at CCSD we work to introduce and deploy these tools through the lens of improving student learning and engagement. We are at a crossroads and have an opportunity before us that we must not squander. It is our time to collectively make a difference in the lives of the students and teachers we serve. On behalf of our team and the Clarkstown Central Schools, a special thank you to LHRIC for recognizing our collective commitment to excellence, a commitment that is widespread and far reaching in our district.
