SMART Board installations – Our installers have installed nearly all SMART Boards, thought there are some last minute modifications being made (i.e. connections, securing the bottom of the boards). Richard has visited most of the installations with the vendor, and will finish this on Tuesday. If, on Wednesday, there are any issues with the SMART Board, please let us know.
Summer Changes – Fortunately, we were able to remove all the oldest computers (essentially any beige computers GXi, GX 300, etc) and replace them with up-to-date systems. Every K-4 classroom now has three workstations, consisting of one tower and two N-Computing devices. The younger grades have age/developmentally appropriate keyboards and mice. We have not migrated to Microsoft Office 2007, but a patch has been installed which allows our computers to open documents created off-site using MS Word 2007.
Acceptable Use Policy (important change) – This summer we did not send out copies of the acceptable use policy to our K, 3, 6, and 9th grade parents. Please use the information and “permissions” from the previous years, and for students new to the district, please use the most restrictive choice when it comes to posting items on the internet, etc. We are in the process of revising the AUP to more closely align with the district’s strategic goals and the needs of 21st century learners. The technology committee will be focusing on this early in the year, and I expect to present a near final draft copy to the other members of the superintendent’s staff to review in October.
Plasmas in CSE rooms – The installers have been actively working on installing the plasma screens in each school’s CSE room, and once those are completed, Richard will arrange delivery of a computer to be used with it. There are also wireless keyboards and mice that have been ordered by Laura Lavine’s department, as well as a small laser printer. This project is on schedule and will be ready for the first day of school.
There are fantastic things taking place in our district! Here’s to a great 2008-09 school year!
